My handy Dad Community Service Program
My Handy Dad Community Service Project was created to lend a helping hand to neighbors who are going through genuine hardship and need small but important repairs to keep their homes safe, functional, and comfortable. Each month, we donate one 2-hour service slot to individuals or families facing difficult circumstances, with additional time made possible when community donations are received. This program is rooted in service, dignity, and respect — and is intentionally limited so we can give our full attention to each situation we take on.
This program is specifically for those facing financial hardship, and of those in financial hardship, we will give preference to widows or widowers, seniors living alone, individuals who are disabled or handicapped, single parents, bereaved parents, and households impacted by medical hardship or traumatic events, such as a serious accident, injury or house fire. The work provided is limited to one small, high-impact handyman task — for example, replacing a faucet, light fixture, door hardware, installing a grab bar or addressing a basic safety concern. Projects related to remodeling, cosmetic upgrades, or additional troubleshooting beyond the approved task are not eligible under this program.
Our time is donated, but materials are not included and must be paid for by the homeowner or covered through donations made specifically to the My Handy Dad Community Service Project. All donations are earmarked exclusively for this program and may be used to help cover materials or fund additional service slots. Donors who wish to contribute will be recognized as part of the project in any publicity relating to the project they contributed to.
All candidates must be located within Lewis, Thurston, or Cowlitz County. We welcome nominations for individuals or families who could truly benefit from this service and appreciate the community’s help in making sure this program reaches those who need it most. Candidates with incomplete forms or lacking information will be deleted. You can call the number above if you have questions.
